Partial Projects List

Project: Hawthorne Plaza
Site: 75 Hawthorne Street, San Francisco

The Hawthorne Plaza project incorporated two 22-story high rise buildings connected by a common lobby area. MSS installed a high speed fiber optic network back bone to accommodate the security system installation.

Phase I of the project consisted of an enterprise security management system which included perimeter access control, lobby level optical turnstiles, interior and exterior CCTV cameras, and integrated biometric readers.

Alarm monitoring devices were installed throughout the facility. We increased tenant security by implementing elevator cab control, photo badging, a checkpoint firewall and a web hosted visitor badging system.

In Phase II, MSS converted a large anchor tenant to the new security system. We performed a database partition, replaced existing hardware and activated approximately 75 card readers.

Project: California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC)
Site: San Francisco

CPMC has been a long-term work in progress for McMillan Security Systems. McMillan’s initial security design work began in 1997 for the Pacific Campus. Since that time our systems have grown to include the California Campus East & West, Davies Medical Center Campus, and numerous remote CPMC properties located throughout San Francisco. This project has presented challenges typically associated with hospital related work. Some of these include working in active patient care areas, areas of limited access and often areas containing hazardous materials or conditions. Many of our technicians have been specifically trained and certified to work in various environmental conditions. CPMC’s security system consists of access control, CCTV, alarm monitoring systems and ID Badge Production. System controls and alarm monitoring is performed by a centralized command server located at Pacific Campus. A client work station at Cal Campus provides a secondary control point for the systems. The system runs across CPMC’s wide area network employing back-up counter measures against network or general power failures. Ongoing projects include campus wide time & attendance integration, significant parking structure security improvements and further expansion of the access control system.

Project: The Sequoias of San Francisco

The Sequoias is a self contained, full service retirement community providing in-house medical attention, restaurants, activities, residencies and various other programs and services. Recently, McMillan Security System and McMillan Electric provided the necessary engineering and design services for the installation of a new security console and extensive CCTV system replacement. This high-rise facility requires a sophisticated CCTV system that allows for simultaneous monitoring and recording of the numerous interior and exterior CCTV cameras. In addition to the improved monitoring capability, the newly installed system is network compatible and fully digital. Three 120 Gb hard-drives archive days of activity that can be accessed for review anytime by camera location, date and time with a few simply key stokes. The recording quality, overall performance and general ease of use of this system is unmatched.

Project: Jack London Square Security Upgrade

The Jack London Square Security System Upgrade presented some very unique challenges for McMillan Security Systems. Our work scope encompassed the entire camera system, emergency telephone system, the complete replacement of the security console and the installation of a new emergency diesel generator on the roof. The system spans across several buildings, parking structures and a public retail area covering nearly 20 acres.

To accomplish all of these tasks in the time frame allotted, it was necessary to work in the garages, security control center and on the roof all at the same time. All of the existing systems were required to remain functional while we replaced and upgraded to a new system which, included the entire security control console.

The systems we upgraded and installed are:

• New CCTV Matrix Switch
• New Digital Recording System
• New Dictaphone Telephone Recorder
• New Emergency Call System (approx. 65 call stations)
• New Pan and Tilt Cameras (approx. 25)
• New Fixed Cameras (approx. 35)
• New Emergency Generator
• New Microwave Link for a remote Pan and Tilt (approx. 1/2 mile away)

This system is currently operating and serviced by MSS under a preventative maintenance contract.
